I am not a knife collector or expert in any way but this happens to be my third knife from the Kershaw Ken Onion series. I just received my Leek model 1660H3 (same metals as the pictured version, except mine has a larger Kershaw logo on the handle and the blade is black DLC coated as well). I purchased the knife sight unseen online from a sporting goods retailer based on my experience with the other Onion series knives and the glowing reviews of the Leek.

This knife is the second largest of the Onion series to my knowledge, coming in larger than the Chive and Scallion, but smaller than the Shallot. I have owned the two smaller versions – the Chive and the Scallion, which were both misplaced at some point… – and so far this is definitely my favorite.

As the largest of the three it is also the most expensive at around $50, but I love what else that price includes in this model. You get the excellent 14C28N blade steel, high quality 440 stainless handle, and better overall build quality.

The build quality on my knife is excellent for the price point. I looked at the comparable Kershaw Cryo which runs for about $40, and the Leek is just leaps and bounds better. The blade centering on my knife is not perfect but it is centered (as opposed to the cryo where the blade was jammed up against one side of the liner.

I’m a huge fan of the liner lock on the Leek as it is light and easy to disengage with one hand, but it engages completely and firmly on the heel of the blade. The only reason I categorize this knife for light duty is because of the lightness of the liner lock and its size, though I have no doubt it would handle tougher.
