The Kershaw Leek-The Real Queen Of Knives
The Kershaw Leek- The Real Queen Of Knives
By Sam Ammouri
Kershaw’s most popular knife, specifically the K.O. Leek folding knife with its serrated edge. The Leek series by infamous knife designer Ken Onion features the Speed-Safe assisted opening system for ambidextrous use and it comes in various finishes for your selection.
A real Sleek & handy carrying pocket knife
The 3.1 OZ slim-line Kershaw Leek is 4 inches closed and has a 3 inch blade. Its modified drop-point makes it a good slicing knife while the slim tip gives it piercing capability and the ability to do detailed performance.
No doubt There are many choices in the Leek series, 12 blade and handle combinations, to be precise. The popular bead-blasted stainless-steel handle gives the knife a sleek, cutting-edge look. Its plain version is made from 410 stainless steel and the blade is made from Sandvik 14C28N stainless steel and will stand up to many years of tough work.
The Kershaw’s chrome Leek has 410 stainless steel in the handle along with a Sandvik 13C26 stainless steel blade polished to perfection. If it’s a serrated edge you’re searching for, try to choose the 1660ST Leek. And let’s not stop there: There’s the smoked look with a double-anodized aluminum handle which comes in smoked black and blue, smoked black and red, or a pink.
If a non-reflective surface that floats your boat, there’s the black tungsten DLS-coated handles, too. And for those of more refined tastes, there’s the Pink Leek with its fashionable pink anodized aluminum handle or the Rainbow Leek with its titanium oxide coating which sports a highly scratch-resistant and brilliant rainbow finishing.
The K.O. Leek knife can be used with either hand. This ambidextrous opening feature is especially handy when you’re in the middle of a job and one hand is already occupied. It is activated by a push on the thumb stud, or the Index-Open blade extension.
Plus while in use, the Leek’s super-secure frame lock feature keeps the blade locked while you use it and the Tip-Lock slider locks the blade closed when you’re finished. There is a pocket clip included which can be adjusted for tip-up or tip-down carrying and the knife handle is drilled in case you need or want to attach it with a lanyard.
Ken Onion began his love affair with knives when at the age of 12 Vernon Ottawa, a local blacksmith and maker of garden tools and knives, inspired Ken’s interest in the trade. Ken later went on to join the U.S. Marie Corps and he worked in the construction field , heavy equipment repair and hydraulics before coming back to his first love… designing the standout knife.
Later on he met the talented knife maker Stan Fujisaki who taught Ken all the tricks of the trade but it was Ken himself who came up with the first Speed-Safe knife. And while that was some two decades ago, Ken Onion is still personally involved throughout the design and manufacturing process, ensuring that each knife meets his high standards of performance and uniqueness.
The patented Speed-Safe Assisted® knife-opening system helps users open the knife by applying manual pressure to the thumb stud or blade protrusion. The essence of the SpeedSafe system which is built into many of Kershaw’s best-selling knives is the torsion bar. This bar keeps gravity from opening the knife so that after the blade is out, the bar moves along its half-moon track and smoothly opens the blade thus locking it into position.

This is the mechanism that sets Kershaw’s knives apart from switchblades. It does not deploy with the push of a button in the handle nor does it open by gravity alone. It is when the user manually overcomes the resistance of the bar.
And no matter what it is…. the looks… The versatility… The usability or just plain ability, be it, Girl Scouts or The Terminator, with Kershaw’s Leek, you are always on the top of the game.
